UFC’s May 8th “Fight Night” card has dropped two bouts following their weigh-ins on Saturday. The cancelled fights bring Saturday’s card down to 10 fights in total.
The UFC event is set to take place at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. The top fight for the card, a flyweight matchup between Michelle Waterson and Marina Rodriguez, is still set to happen at the event.
Ryan Benoit was pulled from his flyweight fight against Zarrukh Adashev after a scary weigh-in on Friday. Benoit appeared in front of the scale twice, visibly shaking on both occasions. After coming in three pounds over the flyweight limit, he was removed from his bout.
It was also announced on Friday that Philipe Lins would get withdrawn from a heavyweight bout against Ben Rothwell. The bout was set to finish off the six-fight prelims on ESPN+.
Troubles at the weigh-in continued beyond the two bouts that won’t be happening. Diego Ferreira missed weight for his non-championship lightweight bout against Gregor Gillespie, coming four-and-a-half pounds over the limit.
Despite the great weight miss, the fight between Ferreira and Gillespie will continue tomorrow. Ferreira accepted a deduction of 30 percent of his fight purse due to the weight miss.
