UFC flyweight Raulian Paiva has been hospitalized due to his weight cut for a May 22nd fight against David Dvorak, per a report from Damon Martin and Guilherme Cruz of MMA Fighting.
On just a days notice, Juancamilo Ronderos has stepped in to replace Paiva in a fight against Dvorak, as first reported by Farah Hannoun and John Morgan of MMA Junkie.
The new matchup will take place during a UFC “Fight Night” card at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
Paiva said he passed out during his weight cut on Thursday.
“The doctor said I had low blood pressure and was dehydrated, that’s why I was passing out and wouldn’t wake back up,” Paiva told MMA Fighting.
The short-notice UFC call-up for Ronderos is being given after putting together an undefeated four-fight run as a pro. He missed weight for the fight at Friday’s weigh-ins, coming in two-and-a-half pounds over the flyweight limit.
Saturday’s card is set to be headlined by bantamweights Cody Garbrandt and Rob Font.
