Friday morning was set to be ONE Championship’s first all-women event, “Empower.” The live show was set to include the start of an eight-woman tournament, and a title fight between Xiong Jing Nan and Michelle Nicolini.
However, it was reported earlier this week that the live event would be postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, ONE Championship has decided to air a pre-taped card on Friday titled “Full Blast.”
It’s not known when these fights were taped, but they will be seen for the first time on Friday. Here’s a preview of the five-fight lineup.
Main Card (8:30AM EDT / 8:30PM SGT) (B/R Live / Youtube)
Bout 1: Anthony Do (7-4) vs. Liang Hui (5-6-1) (127 lbs) (MMA Bout)
Making his first appearance on flagship ONE programming, Anthony Do will fight Liang Hui.
Do last fought in 2019, where he lost a decision to Lito Adiwang on ONE’s developmental “Warrior Series” show. The bout snapped a three-fight win streak that Do had picked up on the regional scene.
He now fights Liang, who is attempting to snap a four-fight skid and even his pro record. Liang lost his ONE Championship debut late last year, losing on scorecards to Senzo Ikeda.
A fight between Do and Liang was first booked for 2020 but had to be postponed at the time due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Bout 2: Ahmed Faress (16-3) vs. Edwards Kelly (12-8) (155 lbs) (MMA Bout)
ONE veteran Edwards Kelly will be matched with Ahmed Faress for the second bout of the card.
Kelly has been part of the ONE roster since 2013 and has put together a promotional record of seven wins and eight losses. He enters this fight on a two-fight losing streak from 2019.
He is facing Faress, who will be making his first flagship ONE appearance. He appeared once on the “Warrior Series,” submitting Alan Philpott with a rear naked choke last year.
Bout 3: Santino Verbeek vs. Miles Simson (185 lbs) (Kickboxing Bout)
Former GLORY Kickboxing fighter Miles Simson will make his ONE debut in a kickboxing bout against Santino Verbeek.
Simson fought in GLORY three times in 2018, winning one bout within a minute and losing the two others.
Verbeek last competed in 2019, where he defeated Juan Vertvantes in a ONE kickboxing bout.
Similar to the opening bout of the card, a fight between Verbeek and Simson was first set to happen in 2020 but was later postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Bout 4: Kantharaj Agasa (11-2) vs. Xie Wei (6-3) (135 lbs) (MMA Bout)
In the final MMA bout of the show, Kantharaj Agasa will fight in ONE for the first time when facing Xie Wei.
Xie picked up his first flagship ONE win last year, stopping Chan Rothana with strikes in the third round of their bout. The win came after a loss earlier in the year in ONE and five fights in their “Warrior” and “Hero” shows in 2019.
Agasa last appeared in 2019, where he snapped a two-fight skid with a decision victory over Nawras Abzakh. The win came in notable regional promotion Brave CF.
Bout 5: Saemapetch Fairtex vs. Kulabdam Sor. Jor. Piek Uthai (145 lbs) (Muay Thai Bout)
Muay Thai will close out the five-fight card on Friday, as Saemapetch Fairtex will fight Kulabdam Sor. Jor. Piek Uthai.
Saemapetch’s most recent showing in ONE saw him take a decision win over Rodlek PK.Saenchaimuaythaigym. The win bounced him back from a 2019 title fight that he lost to Nong-O Gaiyanghadao.
Saemapetch has also scored one win outside of the promotion since then, defeating Pongsiri PK.Saenchaimuaythaigym on a Channel 7 Muay Thai broadcast.
Kulabdam Sor. Jor. Piek Uthai was last seen in ONE last summer, where he participated in a four-man tournament. He started the tournament strong, stunning many with a first-round stoppage victory over Sangmanee Klong Suanpluresort.
Kulabdam came up short in the finals of the tournament, losing to Rodlek PK.Saenchaimuaythaigym via decision. He has since picked up a win outside of ONE.
