LFA 110: Johnson vs. Horiuchi Preview

LFA has a busy month ahead of them. With four events in total planned for July, the promotion will crown many champions and head to Brazil for the first time.

The promotion’s month will kick off on Friday, as they present LFA 110 from the Grand Hotel Casino & Resort in Shawnee, Oklahoma, USA. In the main event of the show, Charles Johnson and Yuma Horiuchi will fight for an interim flyweight belt.

The event was also supposed to have a light heavyweight title fight between Joshua Silveira and Jesse Murray, although that fight departed the card earlier this week. Nonetheless, the show still has undefeated prospects, a former UFC fighter and a title fight in the main event.

Here’s a full preview of the card.

Preliminary Card (Facebook)

Bout 1: Arpan Gurung (0-0) vs. Oscar Herrera (0-0) (Flyweight)

Two flyweights will kickstart their pro careers on Friday, as Arpan Gurung and Oscar Herrera will face off.

Both fighters have experience on the amateur scene, with their records dating back to 2016 on the MMA database Tapology.

Herrera is turning pro shortly after his last fight, as he scored a victory on a “Sparta Wyoming” event in April.

Main Card (9:00PM EDT / 8:00PM CDT) (UFC Fight Pass)

Bout 2: Chibwikem Onyenegecha (7-0) vs. Renato Valente (7-4) (Middleweight)

Returning for the first time in nearly two years, Chibwikem Onyenegecha will face Renato Valente.

Onyenegecha last fought all the way back in 2018, where he earned a split decision win on UFC TV show “Dana White’s Contender Series.” While the win didn’t earn him a UFC contract, it continued his undefeated pro run that now has seven wins in total.

His fight on Friday will be his return to LFA, as he scored a first-round stoppage win over Stephen Skoch in the promotion back in 2017.

Valente will be returning after losing his LFA debut earlier this year. The 28-year-old lost a bout in April, dropping a decision to Mark Martin at LFA 105. He had a two-fight win streak prior to then.

Bout 3: Jaqueline Amorim (3-0) vs. Megan Owen (1-0) (Strawweight)

Undefeated strawweights Jaqueline Amorim and Megan Owen will meet on Friday’s main card.

Amorim has scored three wins in her rookie year as a pro. She only kicked off her career in September but has already scored a trio of first-round wins since then. Her LFA debut was four months back, where she submitted Taisha Gandy in just 33 seconds with a rear naked choke.

Owen will be appearing in the LFA cage for the first time. Her pro debut was in late 2019, where she defeated Ashley LeTourneau on a PFC card.

Bout 4: Christian Natividad (3-0) vs. Luis Aguirre (2-2) (Flyweight)

Wrapping up his rookie year as a pro, Christian Natividad will face Luis Aguirre on Friday.

Natividad has scored three wins under the LFA banner since becoming a pro last year. After earning quick stoppage wins in his first two fights, Natividad showed his ability to go the distance when defeating Evan Woolsey via unanimous decision in February.

Aguirre is competing in his first LFA bout on Friday. He snapped a two-fight skid in May, defeating Erick Olea on an EXF card.

Bout 5: Markus Perez (12-5) vs. Christiano Frohlich (10-5) (Middleweight)

Making his first appearance since leaving the UFC roster, Markus Perez will compete in the co-main event against RIZIN alum Christiano Frohlich.

Perez was part of the UFC roster for four years, putting together a promotional record of two wins and five losses. He departed the UFC roster this year after losing a fight to Dalcha Lungiambula, which put him on a three-fight losing streak.

Perez had competed in the LFA before moving to the UFC and even became the promotion’s middleweight champ in 2017 after defeating now-UFC fighter Ian Heinisch.

Frohlich will be making his first appearance in over two years. He last fought on a RIZIN card in April of 2019, losing to Karl Albrektsson via unanimous decision.

He has fought in LFA before, losing a fight in 2018 to Hayward Charles.

Bout 6: Charles Johnson (8-2) vs. Yuma Horiuchi (8-3) (Vacant Interim LFA Flyweight Championship)

Flyweights Charles Johnson and Yuma Horiuchi will have the chance to become an interim LFA champion in the main event of Friday’s show.

The interim title fight is being made due to current LFA Flyweight Champion Victor Altamirano being tied up with a fight on “Dana White’s Contender Series” later this year. The fight could earn Altamirano a contract in the UFC.

Johnson finds himself in the title position after scoring a submission win over Karlee Pangilinan earlier this year. The fight was his return to MMA after a short stint in boxing over the past few years. Johnson had previously competed in LFA three times, scoring two wins and a loss.

Horiuchi picked up his first LFA win in April, submitting Donavon Frelow in the second round of a fight with an armbar. The fight came a year after he lost a split decision to Leandro Gomes in his promotional debut.
