Former UFC Fighter John Dodson Involved In Highway Collision, Nobody ‘Seriously Injured’ Afterward

Former UFC fighter John Dodson was involved in a car accident on Friday that was described as a “near death” incident by his manager. A statement from the fighter has since declared that nobody involved is suffering “serious injuries” as a result of it.

Dodson and his family got involved in a collision with another vehicle that was stationary on a highway following a previous accident with an 18-wheeler truck, per a statement made by Dodson via Facebook. The vehicle on the highway did not provide hazard lights or “no other warning to let us know” they were present, Dodson said.

Dodson’s management said the family was heading to Texas, USA on vacation.

“We’re just lucky no one died and we can live to see another day and be reminded on how luck [lucky] we are,” said Dodson via social media on Saturday. “Life is short and you don’t know when it’s gonna end so enjoy it while you can.”

The incident has forced Dodson out of his July 30th booking against Cody Gibson on an XMMA card. The fight was set to be his first appearance since departing the UFC roster last year.

Dodson’s manager has launched a GoFundMe in response to the collision. The fundraiser is to help alleviate “financial hardship” for the family, specifically citing medical bills, expenses to return to their home state of New Mexico and the temporary inability for Dodson to compete and earn a living.

The fundraiser topped $11,000 U.S. dollars on Saturday night with 149 donors at the time of publishing. The page remains open and has a goal of $50,000.
