Matt Schnell will replace Askar Askarov in a July 31st UFC booking against Alex Perez, as first reported by Carlos Contreras Legaspi of ESPN Deportes.
The change comes after injury forced undefeated flyweight Askarov out of his scheduled appearance. The new booking is set to take place on a “Fight Night” show at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
The new matchup will be Perez’s first appearance since losing a fight to UFC Flyweight Champion Deiveison Figueiredo last year. Prior to the bout, he had three consecutive wins in the division.
Schnell is also coming off a loss, having dropped a unanimous decision to Rogerio Bonterin in May. The bout was his second loss in his past five appearances.
Featherweights Edson Barboza and Giga Chikadze are currently expected to headline UFC’s August 28th card. Here is how the card looks with the new matchup in place.
