UFC’s July 31st “Fight Night” card lost two bouts following their weigh-ins on Friday. The changes to the card were announced at the weigh-ins, as recorded by news outlet MMA Junkie.
The cancelled bouts were expected to take place at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
Montano Misses Weight, Loses Out on Return
The featured prelim between Nicco Montano and Wu Yanan was pulled from the card after a large weight miss.
Montano missed weight for her bantamweight bout by a substantial amount, coming in seven pounds over the non-championship limit.
The cancelled bout continues issues for Montano over the past year, as numerous bookings of hers have been pulled. The winner in Season 26 of “The Ultimate Fighter” has been sidelined since 2019, now with half a dozen bookings that didn’t come to fruition, per database Tapology.
Wu was looking to snap a two-fight losing streak which included a loss to Joselyne Edwards earlier this year. She made weight for the fight at 135.5 pounds on Friday.
Phil Rowe also missed weight for his fight against Orion Cosce, coming in two-and-a-half pounds over the limit. He will get 30 percent of his fight purse deducted, although his bout will still happen on Saturday.
Lawrence Misses Weigh-Ins Due To Medical Reason
Bantamweight Ronnie Lawrence was pulled from his fight against Trevin Jones after not weighing in on Friday. It was announced that he had to withdraw due to “medical reasons.”
The booking was set to see Lawrence return after winning his UFC debut earlier this year.
Jones qualified for the fight by weighing in at 135 pounds.
UFC’s “Fight Night” card on Saturday night is now set to have 11 fights in total. Middleweights Uriah Hall and Sean Strickland are expected to meet in the main event.
