UFC’s September 4th event lost a bout following the weigh-ins on Friday, as Jonathan Martinez withdrew from his fight against Marcelo Rojo.
Martinez had to withdraw due to “physical complications” involved with his weight cut to bantamweight, per a report from Carlos Contreras Legaspi of ESPN Deportes.
The fight was scheduled to take place at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
Martinez missed weight on Friday morning, coming in two pounds over the non-championship limit for bantamweight. Despite this miss, he was still eligible to compete on Saturday’s card with a purse deduction in play.
The fight was scheduled to be Martinez’s eighth UFC appearance. He has fought six times at bantamweight before, making weight in five of those instances.
His most recent fight was a stoppage loss to Davey Grant in March.
The matchup with weekend was Rojo’s chance to bounce back from his UFC debut loss, which he took against Charles Jourdain earlier this year.
Saturday’s UFC card now has nine bouts in total scheduled. Middleweights will conclude the evening, as Derek Brunson and Darren Till.
