Dana White’s Contender Series Season 5 Episode 9 Results: Five Fighters Offered UFC Contracts

UFC handed out five more contracts on Tuesday’s episode of “Dana White’s Contender Series.”

Manuel Torres, Karine Silva, Javid Basharat, Cristian Quinonez and Gadzhi Omargadzhiev were all offered contracts by UFC President Dana White after their wins at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

Omargadzhiev Secures Kneebar Win In Main Event

Omargadzhiev pulled off a rare submission in the main event, stopping Jansey Silva late in the first round with a kneebar.

The quick win extended Omargadzhiev’s undefeated record to 13 consecutive. Should he sign the UFC contract he was offered Tuesday, he will become just one of 12 fighters on the UFC roster that have an undefeated record of 13 or more fights.

Jansey entered the show with a solid pro record of seven wins and one loss from the Brazilian regional scene.

Quinonez Sweeps Scorecards Against Xiao

UWC Bantamweight Champion Quinonez had a thorough three-round performance against Xiao Long in the co-main event, using his striking skills to pick up a unanimous decision win.

Quinonez overwhelmed Xiao on the feet, connecting at a higher rate and backing him up. He was able to score a knockdown late in the first round, scoring with a right cross that dropped Xiao.

Quinonez’s previous fight was a five-round title fight win over Donny Matos in February.

Bashrat Dominates, Stops Kahlon To Retain Flawless Record

Basharat had one of the most one-sided performances of the season this week, taking Oron Kahlon into the final minute of action before submitting him with a guillotine choke.

Basharat did a large amount of damage in the first and second rounds, taking Kahlon down early in both frames and scoring with minutes worth of ground and pound.

Kahlon was dropped in the final round by a leg kick. Basharat was able to advance into a full mount on the ground, applying a guillotine choke from that position to end the fight.

The win moved Basharat’s undefeated record to double digits, earning him his 10th win since turning pro in 2016.

Kahlon quickly became a disliked character for many viewers earlier this week, racistly referring to Basharat as a “terrorist” at the weigh-ins on Monday.

Kahlon also missed weight for the fight, coming in three pounds over the non-championship limit at bantamweight.

He had a long undefeated record of 16 wins that dated back to 2006.

Silva Gets Quick Guillotine Choke For Win

Silva showed her ability to submit while on her back, catching Yan Qihui with a first-round guillotine choke for a win.

Silva was taken down in the second round, but she was quick to apply the choke on the ground to get the submission.

Yan had succeeded earlier in the fight, taking Silva down in the opening round and using a full guard position to connect with ground and pound.

Silva has been active on the Brazilian regional scene since 2013. She is now on a five-fight winning streak that dates back to 2019.

Yan entered the fight with an experienced record of over 20 fights.

Torres Gets Quick Yet Controversial Win Against Englund

A quick win for lightweight Torres against Kolton Englund didn’t come without controversy Tuesday. While Torres put away Englund in the first round, the win was clouded by a potential eye poke that the referee didn’t notice.

Englund held his face after leaving a clinch position, seemingly protesting an eye poke. Since referee Herb Dean didn’t step in and stop the fight, Torres continue to press forward with shots that dropped Englund and put an end to the fight.

Torres had fought 13 times as a pro before Tuesday, with a large portion of the fights taking place in Mexico’s regional scene.

Englund entered the episode on a three-fight winning streak in Texas-based regional promotion Fury FC.

Titan FC Champ Murad Takes Split Decision Over ONE Vet Xie

Titan FC Featherweight Champion Olivier Murad extended his undefeated record to open the card, taking a split decision win over Xie Bin.

Murad was the sole fighter to go home without a UFC contract on this week’s episode. He had the better striking through all three rounds, out-scoring with punches against Xie.

Xie was able to use his wrestling at times in the fight, landing many takedowns during the fight.

Murad entered Tuesday with an undefeated record of four wins. He won a regional belt in his previous fight, going five rounds against Muhammadjon Naimov for a decision win in February.

Xie was a 10-fight ONE Championship veteran before Tuesday. His run in the promotion concluded with a seven-fight winning streak.
