Plans have changed for the UFC debut of Mike Diamond. He is now scheduled to face Jeremiah Wells at UFC’s February 12th pay-per-view event, per a report from Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.
The new matchup is scheduled to take place on UFC 271 at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, USA.
This fight wasn’t the original plan for either fighter heading into 2022.
Diamond was originally set to make his UFC debut on this card against Orion Cosce. Wells was also previously lined up for a booking, getting scheduled to face Tim Means at an event earlier in the month. Both matchups have been reportedly pulled, and this pairing was made instead.
Diamond, a fighter out of New Zealand, is making his UFC debut with an undefeated MMA record of three wins. He trains out of the notable City Kickboxing gym, which is well represented on this card.
Wells won his UFC debut in June, stopping Warlley Alves in the second round of a fight. The former CFFC Welterweight Champion was originally planning to return in December against Jake Matthews, although that fight later fell through due to COVID-19 protocols.
UFC Middleweight Champion Israel Adesanya is currently set to face Robert Whittaker in a rematch in the main event of UFC 271. Here’s the updated card:
