Jaqueline Amorim became the new LFA Strawweight Champion on Friday night, securing a quick submission win against Loveth Young.
Amorim’s first-round win headlined LFA 125, which was at the Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino in Niagara Falls, New York, USA.
Amorim was able to catch Young in the second minute with a rare kneebar submission. This came just moments after she secured a takedown to get Young to the ground.
Young resisted a takedown earlier in the fight by grabbing the cage with both of her hands. This was something the referee noticed and deducted a point from her due to it.
Amorim, a grappling ace, was getting a title fight after scoring four pro wins from 2020 to 2021. Her two LFA fights last year lasted a combined 43 seconds.
Young entered Friday on a two-fight winning streak in LFA. Her two previous fights both came via stoppage due to striking.
Fugitt Scores Upset Win Over ‘Contender Series’ Alum Renfro
Adam Fugitt scored a massive upset in his return, stopping Solomon Renfro in the first round with strikes in the co-main event.
Fugitt caused Renfro to hit the canvas hard with a lead right hook in the first round. Fugitt followed up with hard ground and pound shots that put Renfro to sleep that finished the bout.
Renfro entered as the higher touted fighter and had the live crowd on his side.
Renfro’s previous appearance was on the most recent “Dana White’s Contender Series” season, where he lost a split decision to Jonny Parsons. He was a CFFC prospect before then, earning seven wins through eight appearances with them from 2017 to 2021.
Fugitt was fighting for the first time since late 2019. Now back in action, he has a strong four-fight winning streak.
Stack Continues Win Streak Against Gregorio
Michael Stack moved his record to three consecutive wins on Friday night, earning a hard-fought unanimous decision win against Caio Gregorio.
Stack had a good start to the fight but battled some adversity before finishing strong.
Ground control was the name of the game in Friday’s fight. Stack won the first round by getting Gregorio to the canvas early. Gregorio’s best round was the second, as he spent most of the round in ground control.
The wrestling skills of Stack took over in the final frame, securing a second round for him and earning him a decision win.
Stack has now earned three wins in LFA since early 2021.
Gregorio was making his return to action, fighting for the first time since August 2019.
Gregorio missed weight for the fight, coming in two-and-a-half pounds over the non-championship limit on Thursday.
Returning Nichols Earns Nod Over Rose
Ashley Nichols won in her return to combat sports on Friday night, fighting to a unanimous decision victory over Hilarie Rose.
Nichols’ win came from a clinch-heavy striking battle on the feet throughout their three-round battle. She had somewhat of a slow start to the fight, although things picked up for her much later in the fight.
Nichols was making her first appearance in combat sports since 2018. The former GLORY Kickboxer had lost her two previous MMA bouts.
Rose lost a CFFC title fight in her previous appearance, losing to Elise Reed in May 2021.
Faria Stops Zane With Diverse Range of Strikes
Leg kicks mixed with strikes to the head from Guilherme Faria earned him a win over Bellator alum Zach Zane to open the main card.
Faria had a strong variety of strikes against Zane, frequently targeting his legs while also landing to the head. These shots proved successful for him, as Zane looked visibly hurt late in the second round due to these blows.
Faria capitalized on a visibly hurt Zane, landing a kick to the leg and punches to the head to drop him and end the bout.
Zane fought just last month, suffering a first-round submission loss to Loik Radzhabov on an Eagle FC card.
Faria beat another experienced fighter in his previous fight, beating Daron Cruickshank via split decision last year.
