Italo Gomes picked up a win in the main event on Friday night, going three rounds against Melquizael Costa to earn a unanimous decision victory.
The fight headlined LFA 132, which took place at the Quali Stage in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Gomes picked up his victory through a mix of striking and controlling the fight on the ground.
Gomes kept up with Costa on the feet, trading in back and forth exchanges. He remained active in clinch positions against Costa, often landing knees to the body. He also made use of his takedowns, stepping into full mount during one instance during the third round.
Gomes has now picked up three consecutive wins on the regional scene in Brazil. His previous victory was a first-round finish stoppage over Claudiere Freitas.
Costa put a more extensive five-fight run of wins on the line heading into the bout. His previous fight was just two months ago, submitting Angel Rodriguez on a regional show.
Lacerda Submits Alves In The Second Round
Luan Luiz Lacerda kept his extensive winning streak alive in Friday’s co-main event, showcasing grappling skills with a submission victory over Marciley Alves.
Lacerda got the fight to the ground early in the second round with a takedown attempt. After trying for a heel hook, Lacerda hopped on the back of Alves to lock in a rear naked choke and end the fight.
Lacerda, now on a 10-fight winning streak, called for a shot in the UFC following his win. He appeared on an LFA card last year, defeating Tayron Pedro via heel hook.
Alves was attempting to earn his third consecutive win with his appearance this weekend.
UFC Alum Silva Earns Win In Return
Former UFC fighter Gabriel Silva picked up a win in his return to the cage, defeating Rono Junior on scorecards after three rounds.
Silva had a dominant performance against Junior, taking all three rounds. His stand-up striking led most of the battle, but he also succeeded late in the second round with a brief rear naked choke attempt.
Silva was making his first appearance since an unsuccessful UFC run, taking two losses from 2019 to 2020 before getting cut from the promotion. He had previously appeared in the LFA before that stint, defeating Jake Heffernan on a card in early 2019.
Junior was also ending a break from the cage, fighting for the first time since late 2019.
Former Legacy FC Champion Leite Retires Following Win
Leo Leite had his retirement fight on Friday night, defeating Patrick Quadros via unanimous decision after three rounds.
Leite had a slow start in the fight, but picked up the pace in later rounds and caused visible damage to the face of Quadros by the end.
Leite’s career includes being a Legacy FC Middleweight Champion and appearing twice in Bellator. At 44 years old, Leite was appearing Friday for the first time since 2018.
Quadros entered Friday on a two-fight winning streak from the regional scene.
Brasil Uses Striking To Hand Castanho First Loss
Bruna Brasil handed Yasmin Castanho her first pro loss, using her striking skills to clear scorecards and earn a unanimous decision victory.
Brasil’s striking gave her the edge in all rounds and backed Castanho up throughout the fight. Her greatest moment came in the second round when she briefly seated Castanho with a head kick.
Castanho had a flawless record of five wins before Friday, including an appearance at LFA 111.
Brasil has now won six consecutive bouts in MMA.
Hermogenes Finishes Oliveira With Strikes
Gabriella Hermogenes kept her winning streak going on Friday night, finishing Edna Oliveira in the second round with strikes.
Oliveira, a short-notice opponent for Hermogenes, verbally submitted to strikes in the second frame. The fight went to the ground after Hermogenes unloaded with a combination on the feet and then took her down.
Hermogenes landed a punch to the body of Oliveira before the fight was stopped.
Hermogenes now has a strong record of seven wins and one loss. Her previous fight was a win over Queila Braga on an LFA card in 2021.
Oliveira is on a three-fight losing streak over the past year.
Undefeated Henrique Wins LFA Debut Against Oliveira
Jose Henrique kept his undefeated record alive in the first bout of the main card, defeating Pedro Oliveira in a close split decision result.
Henrique took the fight after a back-and-forth battle on the feet. As noted on the broadcast, it was likely the opening round that decided who took the fight, as the later frames were much more decisive.
Oliveira spent a fair chunk of the second round charging at Henrique with a flurry of punches.
Henrique’s best moment came late, as he knocked Oliveira down with a right hook.
Henrique has now scored five wins since turning pro in 2019.
Oliveira took his first pro loss on Friday’s card. He previously had five wins and one draw, including two victories from earlier this year alone.
