Floyd Mayweather is expected to appear in the RIZIN ring for the second time later this year.
The accomplished boxer with a flawless pro record of 50 wins is expected to meet MMA fighter Mikuru Asakura in an exhibition bout later this year, per an announcement made at a press conference Monday.
The fight is expected to take place in Japan in September, although a specific date or location isn’t known yet. Not only that but the exact rules for the exhibition combat sports bout aren’t known currently.
Mayweather, 45, has competed in numerous exhibition boxing bouts in recent years.
He notably appeared for RIZIN in late 2018 against kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa. That fight was an incredibly quick win for him, dropping Nasukawa three times within the first round to force a stoppage.
Asakura carries a fair amount of popularity in Japan through his fighting career and online presence. His Youtube channel currently has 2.42 million subscribers, and most videos obtain over 500,000 views.
The video on his channel regarding the fight against Mayweather has already earned 1.2 million views since being uploaded on Monday night.
Asakura has fought for RIZIN since 2018. He avenged a loss in his last appearance, defeating Yutaka Saito at the promotion’s 2021 New Year’s Eve card.
