After months of speculation, it has been made official that Zabit Magomedsharipov will be stepping away from the sport of MMA.
Magomedsheripov has notified the UFC that he will retire from competition, per a report from Guilherme Cruz of MMA Fighting.
Magomedsharipov, 31, had quickly ascended up the UFC ranks since he joined the promotion in 2017. He didn’t lose any fights during his time with them, scoring six wins up to 2019.
The featherweight has been inactive for more than two years, leaving many to wonder what would be next for him. Earlier this year, he posted on social media that he intends to become a doctor.
The featherweight’s departure from the UFC paints an unusual story, as it shows a contender rising up the ranks but suddenly changing paths. No information is publicly known about whether injuries or other issues had an influence on Magomedsharipov’s decision to retire as well.
