Riding the momentum of a recent successful return to flyweight, Shanna Young will face Miranda Maverick at UFC’s August 20th pay-per-view event. The upcoming matchup was confirmed last week by Nolan King of MMA Junkie.
The fight is joining UFC 278, which is expected to take place at the Vivint Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA.
Young scored a finish win earlier this year, stopping Gina Mazany in the second round of a bout. While Young had previously appeared as a flyweight in her career, this win marked the first time that she had competed in UFC’s 125-pound division.
Following up on that success, Young will be sticking with the flyweight limit for her next booking.
Young’s two previous UFC fights both resulted in losses.
Maverick also snapped a two-fight skid in her last appearance. She earned a second-round submission victory over Sabina Mazo in March, catching her with a rear naked choke for a win.
UFC Welterweight Champion Kamaru Usman is expected to face Leon Edwards in the main event of UFC 278. Here is an updated look at the card:
Bout 4: Kamaru Usman (20-1) vs. Leon Edwards (19-3) (UFC Welterweight Championship)

Bout 2: Jose Aldo (31-7) vs. Merab Dvalishvili (14-4) (Bantamweight)
