ONE Championship is planning to present a total of eight bouts for their debut on Amazon Prime Video next month.
ONE 161, which is set to take place on August 26th, will be headlined by a previously announced rematch between 135-pound champion Adriano Moraes and former UFC titleholder Demetrious Johnson.
The fight will serve as the main event for a card from the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore but will air during primetime hours in U.S. timezones.
Moraes scored a finish win over Johnson in their first meeting, catching him with a combination of strikes in April 2021 for a second-round victory. He has defended his belt once more since then, submitting Yuya Wakamatsu in March.
In the rematch, Johnson will be fighting to get back the sole loss he has taken since first joining ONE in early 2019. Before that defeat, he had three victories in the promotion and a long history of title defenses in the UFC.
Three High-Profile Muay Thai Bouts Set For Main Card
A trio of Muay Thai bouts that have major ONE Championship implications will take place on the main card.
In the co-main event, Nong-O Gaiyanghadao will look to defend his 145-pound belt against Liam Harrison.
Nong-O is one of ONE’s most dominant names in their Muay Thai divisions. He has defended his belt five times since first gaining it in 2019. His last title defense saw him score a third-round finish, catching Felipe Lobo with strikes
Harrison is coming off a recent first-round finish win against Muangthai P.K.Saenchaimuaythaigym. The fight was his second victory since he joined ONE in 2019.
ONE’s 135-pound tournament will continue on the main card with two bouts. In the bracket’s semi-finals, titleholder Rodtang Jitmuangnon will meet Savvas Michael.
Rodtang and Michael won their quarter-final bouts in the bracket two months back at ONE 157. On that card, Rodtang defeated Jacob Smith, and Michael scored a victory over Amir Naseri.
An alternate bout between Naseri and Jonathan Haggerty is expected to open the main card.
Heavyweights To Appear At ONE 161
A pair of heavyweight fights are also scheduled to take place on the main card.
Grappling ace Marcus Almeida will search for his fourth pro win at the August event, facing Kirill Grishenko.
Almeida had a quick win in his last showing, stopping Simon Carson in the first round with ground and pound shots.
Also on the card, ONE vets Amir Aliakbari and Mauro Cerilli will battle.
Aliakbari will be fighting to snap a two-fight skid that he developed in 2021. Cerilli will be fighting for the first time in over a year. His last fight was in early 2021 when he stopped Abdulbasir Vagabov with strikes.
