Jason Jackson Wins First Bellator Main Event, Hands Douglas Lima Fourth Consecutive Loss

Jason Jackson kept his welterweight winning streak alive this weekend, picking up a one-sided unanimous decision victory over former titleholder Douglas Lima.

Jackson’s win headlined Bellator 283 from the Emerald Queen Casino and Hotel in Tacoma, Washington, USA.

Jackson used his wrestling to earn rounds against Lima, taking him down without much resistance numerous times during the fight.

Jackson had a solid lead on scorecards once the fight went into the later rounds. His dominance came to the disproval of a live crowd, who booed his wrestling-heavy fighting style in the final minutes of the bout.

The fight on Friday marked Jackson’s sixth consecutive victory in Bellator. It was also the first time he headlined a Bellator card or went five rounds in a bout under their banner.

The victory makes Jackson one of the top welterweights in the promotion. He likely won’t get a title bout next, as champion Yaroslav Amosov and interim titleholder Logan Storley are expected to meet soon. But, chances are that he would be next in line for a bout after that matchup takes place.

Lima’s recent struggles only continued in Friday’s main event. The former Bellator Welterweight Champion has now gone winless since 2019, and has dropped four fights since then. His previous fight saw him suffer a loss against rival Michael Page via split decision.

Lima also missed weight for the bout, coming in more than a pound over the 171-pound limit for Friday’s headlining fight.

RIZIN Standout Musayev Wins Bellator Debut In Seconds, Calls For Title Bout

Tofiq Musayev needed just seconds to win his Bellator debut, stopping Sidney Outlaw with punches.

Musayev first rocked Outlaw with a combination of an overhand right and a left hook in the opening round. Outlaw was then dropped by another overhand right, causing the fight to end.

Musayev was making his first Bellator appearance after a run in Japanese promotion RIZIN. He notably won their lightweight grand prix in 2019, scoring three wins in the year, including a victory over current Bellator champion Patricky Pitbull.

Musayev set his sights on Pitbull in his post-fight interview.

“I’m waiting for the belt,” said Musayev in his post-fight interview.

Outlaw was originally scheduled to face Pitbull in the main event of this weekend’s card. He was given a fight against Musayev after that fight fell through due to an injury.

Undefeated Nurmagomedov Submits Gonzalez In The First

Usman Nurmagomedov picked up the 15th win of his undefeated career on Friday night, submitting Chris Gonzalez early with a front choke.

Nurmagomedov slipped in the front choke shortly after earning a trip takedown on Gonzalez. With the choke completely applied, Gonzalez tapped out to end the fight.

Nurmagomedov’s flawless pro record now includes four wins in Bellator. He had a solid rookie year for the promotion last year, scoring three wins, with two of them coming via first-round finish.

Gonzalez was riding the momentum of a recent 36-second victory over Saad Awad.

Berkhamov vs. Larkin Ends Early In No Contest

Rising welterweight Mukhamed Berkhamov had his fight against experienced talent Lorenz Larkin cut short on Friday night due to an illegal blow that landed early.

An elbow to the back of Berkhamov’s head from Larkin caused the fight to end in the first round, forcing a no contest outcome.

The fight was paused in the third minute after Larkin landed a clean elbow to the back of Berkhamov’s head. This elbow landed while Larkin was up against the cage and attempting to resist a takedown attempt from Berkhamov.

Shortly thereafter, the call was made to end the fight.

Berkhamov won his Bellator debut last year, scoring a first-round submission victory over Jaleel Willis.

Larkin had a strong six-fight winning streak going before the result on Friday night.

Vet Golm Hands Franklin First Pro Loss

UFC alum Marcelo Golm stopped the momentum of Davion Franklin in the opening bout of the main card.

Golm pulled off a late finish against Franklin, catching him in the final minute of action with a rear naked choke.

The finish came at the end of an aggressive performance from Golm, pushing forward on Franklin for three rounds with strikes. Franklin was able to answer back with his own shots, but he consumed many blows and slowed down as fatigue became a factor in the bout.

The win on Friday continued a strong run for Golm. He has yet to lose since departing the UFC roster in 2019, having scored four victories since then.

Franklin entered this weekend with an undefeated record of five wins, including three via finish.

The Rest of the Card

Dalton Rosta handed Romero Cotton his first pro loss in the final prelim, catching him early in the third round with punches. After rocking Cotton with a superman punch, Rosta closed out the contest shortly after with a left hook.

Veta Arteaga picked up a win in her return, submitting veteran Vanessa Porto with a guillotine choke. Arteaga attained the choke while stopping a takedown attempt, and kept with the hold until a tap was received.

Gadzhi Rabadanov went the distance against Bellator vet Bobby King for a unanimous decision victory.

Akhmed Magomedov won his pro debut on Friday night, catching Kevin Boehm in just over a minute with a rear naked choke.

Roman Faraldo picked up another quick finish win this weekend, stopping Luis Iniguez with a left hand to earn his eighth pro win.

Jaylon Bates had what looked to be the toughest fight of his career on Friday night, going three rounds against Mark Coates for a split decision win.

Archie Colgan finished a fight in his return to Bellator, stopping Bryan Nuro in the third round with strikes. Colgan now has an undefeated record of five wins.
