Saturday’s UFC card will proceed without a fight between two high-ranked flyweights.
A bout between Askar Askarov and Brandon Royval has departed the promotion’s October 15th show due to “weight management issues,” per a statement issued Friday.
The bout was expected to take place at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
Royval alleged in a social media statement that Askarov was the fighter who struggled to make weight, although this is not confirmed at the moment. Since the bout was canceled early in the day, neither fighter appeared at the weigh-ins before this news broke.
Askarov was fighting to bounce back from his sole pro loss, which came against Kai Kara-France in March.
On the other hand, Royval had the momentum of a two-fight winning streak. His last appearance came in May, when he submitted Matt Schnell within a round due to guillotine choke.
It is not known at the moment when either fighter will appear next.
Saturday’s UFC card is now 11 fights in total. Flyweights Alexa Grasso and Viviane Araujo are expected to headline the card.
