After a very bloody five round fight, Julija Stoliarenko won the Invicta Bantamweight Championship, defeating Lisa Verzosa. The Lithuanian fighter won via split decision (49-46 Verzosa, 48-46 Stoliarenko & 49-46 Stoliarenko) at Invicta Phoenix Series 3, which took place at the Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kansas, USA.
Throughout all five rounds, Stoliarenko was engaged with a striking battle with Verzosa. While Stoliarenko was the first to bleed, later in the fight two huge cuts made Verzosa bleed quite a bit.
“I know that I’m barely known for American public, but, I wanted to be here so badly,” said Stoliarenko after the fight.
The fight had open scoring meaning, fighters and viewers knew the score the judges had in-between rounds.
The fight was the first loss that Verzosa took in her professional MMA career, being 5-0 before.
Stoliarenko came into this fight on a four-fight winning streak. She had never fought in Invicta before this fight. She fought in season 28 of UFC’s The Ultimate Fighter.
The co-main event of the show was the grand final of a one-night bantamweight tournament. Going 3-0 in the evening, Taneisha Tennant defeated Taylor Guardado to win the tournament.
After her fight, she expressed interest in facing the winner of the main event.
