Cody Garbrandt is out of his March 28th co-main event against Rafael Assuncao due to a kidney issue. Per Brett Okamoto of ESPN, Garbrandt has been in the hospital for five days now.
The fight was meant to take place on the UFC on ESPN 8 card, taking place at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio, USA.
The former UFC Bantamweight Champion looked to end his three-fight losing streak which started back in 2017. All three losses have come via punches.
Assuncao was on a similar losing streak, losing his last two fights. Previously, the Brazilian fighter was on a four-fight winning streak.
Currently set to headline UFC on ESPN 8 is undefeated heavyweight Jairzinho Rozenstruick and Francis Ngannou. Both fighters are ranked in the top 10 of the heavyweight division.
