UFC Jacksonville: Ovince Saint Preux vs. Ben Rothwell Play-by-Play

In the co-main event of the show on Wednesday, Ovince Saint Preux made the move up to heavyweight to face Ben Rothwell. Here’s how the competition went.

Bout 9: Ovince Saint Preux (24-13) vs. Ben Rothwell (37-12) (Heavyweight)

With two minutes to go, Rothwell caught a head kick and tried for a choke. Saint Preux dropped to his knees while Rothwell tried. While he escaped the choke quickly on the ground, Saint Preux got back up with 30 seconds left.

Rothwell connected with a solid punch a minute into the round. He had Saint Preux backing up against the cage. With 30 seconds to go in the round, Saint Preux landed a left hook which dropped Rothwell. Rothwell was able to recover and endure the round.

Rothwell failed to get Saint Preux down after having him against the cage for a while. When separating, Saint Preux connected with numerous punches. While Rothwell was getting hit, he continued to come forward. The striking reached a fever high at the end of the round, where Rothwell was knocked down just after the horn. Needing scorecards to find a winner, Ben Rothwell got a split decision win (29-28 Saint Preux, 29-28 Rothwell & 29-28 Rothwell).
