Pedro Munhoz has been removed from his July 15th UFC fight versus Frankie Edgar after testing positive for COVID-19. The positive test was first reported by Raul Lopez of MMA Fusion.
The fight was set to be in the co-main event slot of UFC’s July 15th event which was at Yas Island in Abu Dhabi.
Edgar, the opponent of Munhoz, took to social media to with his opponent well.
“Sorry to hear you had a positive test @PedroMunhozmma [Munhoz] wish you a speedy recovery let know as soon as you’re ready to scrap, I’ll be waiting,” said Edgar on Twitter.
The matchup between Munhoz and Edgar was first scheduled for July 11th, being moved to the event four days later eventually. It is not known if Edgar will have a replacement opponent on the show.
Edgar’s last fight was in December, losing to Chan Sung Jung, also known as “The Korean Zombie.” In his next fight he will attempt to break his two-fight losing streak.
Munhoz, when he recovers, will aim to bounce back from a loss which came against Aljamain Sterling in June of 2019.
Still scheduled in the main event for UFC’s July 15th show is a featherweight bout between Calvin Kattar and Dan Ige. Here’s how the card looks now.
