Kicking off UFC 251’s 13-fight card was a bantamweight battle between Martin Day and Davey Grant. Here’s how it went.

Grant started the fight with a few leg kicks. He landed a clean body punch in the second minute. Day landed a hard counter-right hook in the third minute that dropped Grant. On the ground, Day took full guard. They returned to the feet with two minutes left in the round. Grant got a double leg takedown with a minute to go in the round. They got to their feet with Grant fighting off a takedown as the round ended.
Both fighters laid in with some hard hooks early in the second round. The tempo of striking was fast early. Grant threw a flying knee that connected somewhat. Grant landed a multi-hook combination that hurt Day and had him retrating. Grant continued with punches, taking the order of Day who egged him on to continue. Grant got a takedown, landing in side control with two minutes to go in the round. Grant went from a north south position into an armbar. Day escaped the armbar, taking full guard on top. They got back up with a few seconds left in the round. A body kick dropped Grant as the round ended
The fast tempo of striking did not seem to slow down as the fight rolled into its final round. Grant tried for a takedown in the first minute of the last round, with Day being able to resist it. Both fighters were scoring hard punches to the head and body. They were almost taking turns with significant striking. Halfway through the round, a left hook dropped Day and ended the fight.
