Kicking off the 12-fight card on Saturday night was a heavyweight battle between Serghei Spivac and the debuting Carlos Felipe. The fight went like this.
Bout 1: Serghei Spivac (10-2) vs. Carlos Felipe (8-0) (Heavyweight)
Felipe was the advancing fighter early on, walking down Spivac and throwing punches. Spivac had the reach advantage, being able to connect with jabs from a distance against Felipe. Spivac put together a punch combination that ended with a knee in the third minute. Felipe was confident in the octagon, shrugging and motioning at Spivac often in the round. The cleanest punches of the round were the jabs that Spivac were landing.
After a stand-up battle in the first round, Spivac tried to get the fight to the ground in the second minute of the second round. Shooting for a takedown, Felipe was able to keep it on the feet. He tried again a minute later, keeping Felipe against the cage in a clinch for a moment after. Both fighters were landing with clean shots on the feet.
Spivac got a takedown in the third round, getting on the back of Felipe on the knees. Spivac connected with punches to the side of the head from the position. They got back to the feet eventually in a clinch, although Spivac got him back down after. Spivac continued with punches on the ground, moving into full mount at one point. He continued with punches on the ground until the round ended. The judges had a majority decision that favoured Spivac (28-28, 29-28 & 29-27).
RESULT: Serghei Spivac def. Carlos Felipe via Decision, Majority
