UPDATE 7/23/20 2:35PM EDT: Article updated to reflect news of Aldana testing positive for COVID-19.
UFC’s August 1st show has seen a sudden change, as a five-round main event between Holly Holm and Irene Aldana has been taken off the card and postponed to a later date.
On Wednesday night, it was announced by Aldana that she was removed from the card due to a positive COVID-19 test.
“The first days were complicated in terms of symptoms, but I am much better,” said Aldana in an Instagram statement.
News of the postponement broke via an Instagram live video between UFC President Dana White and former UFC fighter Ronda Rousey.
It is not known currently why the fight was postponed.
Replacing them in the headlining slot was the previously booked co-main event between Derek Brunson and Edmen Shahbazyan. A new poster for the event has already been unveiled.
