Welterweights Takashi Sato and Daniel Rodriguez will join UFC’s August 22nd event. Per a report from Farah Hannoun and Nolan King of MMA Junkie, the fight joins the now six-fight card that is expected to happen in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
Rodriguez has had a strong start to his UFC career, having won both of his appearances thus far. His first bout in the octagon came in February, catching Tim Means in the second round with a guillotine choke. He followed that win up in May with a decision over Gabe Green.
Sato’s been in the UFC for a slightly longer period of time, although to say he’s experienced within the promotion, he’s past his freshman year. His UFC debut in April of 2019 saw the former Pancrase fighter stop Ben Saunders with ground and pound.
After a loss in September to Belal Muhammad, Sato returned last June to get a quick win over Jason Witt.
“I just signed contract today,” said Sato via Twitter on Tuesday night prior to news of the pairing breaking.
UFC’s rapidly approaching August 22nd event is still without a main event, with six bouts in total currently lined up. Here’s the card as of right now.
