Finishing off the four-fight prelims, Frankie Saenz fought Johnathan Martinez. Here’s how the fight went.
Bout 4: Frankie Saenz (12-6) vs. Jonathan Martinez (11-3) (Bantamweight)
Saenz charged forward with hard punches early, getting a takedown within the first moment. Martinez was quick to get back up, although he was pressed against the fence by Saenz. They went back to stand-up with just over three minutes to go. Martinez rocked Saenz with a series of strikes in the final moments of the round.
Martinez had success with striking in the second round, walking down Saenz and piecing together combinations. Martinez blocked a takedown attempt early in the round, landing punches afterwards. Saenz was hurt in the second minute, clearly getting wobbled by some strikes. Saenz was dropped by a head kick in the third minute, landing follow-up strikes on the ground after. Saenz was able to get up, although he was dropped a minute later. Saenz got dropped again in the final minute by a head kick. Martinez landed follow up punches, staying on top until the round ended.
A groin kick to Saenz caused a break early in the third round. Martinez landed a knee to the head that dropped Saenz early in the third round, landing ground and pound to end the fight.
