UFC on ESPN+ 31: Nathan Maness vs. Johnny Munoz Play-by-Play

In a double debut, Nathan Maness and Johnny Munoz faced each other on the UFC prelims. Here’s how their debuts went.

Bout 3: Nathan Maness (11-1) vs. Johnny Munoz (10-0) (Bantamweight)

Munoz tired for a takedown in the second minute, staying in a clinch on the feet. A pause came after Maness was kneed in the groin, although they resumed shortly after. A low blow happened moments after they resumed, causing another pause. When they continued, Munoz got a takedown from a clinch. Munoz went from side control into a north-south position. Before getting onto the back of Maness, Munoz landed a series of hammerfist punches to the head. Munoz continued with ground and pound punches from a full mount until the round ran out of time.

Munoz tried for a takedown early in the second round, with Maness being able to shut it down. Maness went into a clinch after blocking a second takedown attempt. A cut was opened above the eyebrow of Munoz during the clinch. They were separated from the clinch due to inactivity with two minutes left in the round. Maness stopped a takedown attempt, bring put against the fence in a clinch. Munoz got a single leg takedown in the final minute of the round. Maness landed some elbows to the head from the bottom. Munoz moved into half guard before the round ended.

Maness was kicked in the groin again to start the third round. Since it was the third groin shot, Munoz was deducted a point for the round. When they resumed, Munoz put Maness in a clinch against the cage. The fighters were separated from the clinch with half of the fight to go. Munoz was quick to move the fight back into a clinch against the cage. Maness got a takedown in the final minute, although Munoz tried for a leg hold before the round ran out of time. Maness was given the win after three rounds (29-27, 29-27 & 29-27).

RESULT: Nathan Maness def. Johnny Munoz via Decision, Unanimous
