UFC on ESPN+ 31: Jamall Emmers vs. Vincent Cachero Play-by-Play

The second preliminary fight saw Jamall Emmers face short-notice opponent Vincent Cachero. Here’s how the fight went.

Bout 2: Jamall Emmers (17-5) vs. Vincent Cachero (7-2) (Featherweight)

The fight started with a high paced striking battle between the fighters. Emmers landed a series of knees to the body in a clinch in the second minute. Cachero dumped Emmers to the ground in the third minute after catching a kick. They clinched after Emmers got up, with a break after they separated due to Emmers being hit in the groin. There were many other clinches in the round where Emmers landed at least a dozen other knees. Emmers got a takedown in the final 30 seconds of the fight, going into half guard before the round ended.

While Emmers was connecting with most of the strikes, Cachero was consistently stepping forward and throwing strikes. After landing a hard series of hooks to Cachero, Emmers got a takedown in the second minute of the round. Coming back up from their knees, Emmers stayed pressed on Cachero in a body lock. Emmers landed a takedown in the final minute of the round.

Emmers shot for two takedowns in the final round, getting to the ground upon second attempt. Emmers moved into side control in the third minute. They went back to the feet halfway through the round, although Emmers stayed pressed up against Cachero in a body lock. They went back to striking with two minutes to go. Emmers tried again for a takedown, putting Cachero against the fence. Emmers got another takedown with a minute left in the fight. Emmers got on the back of Cachero, trying for a rear naked choke before the round ran out of time. Going to the scorecards, Emmers got a sweep on the card (30-27, 30-27 & 30-27).

RESULT: Jamall Emmers def. Vincent Cachero via Decision, Unanimous
