Undefeated Alex had his record put to the test on Saturday when he faced Nasrat Haqparast on the UFC prelims. Here’s how their fight went.
Bout 5: Nasrat Haqparast (11-3) vs. Alex Munoz (6-0) (Lightweight)
Munoz got a double leg takedown early, getting full guard on top. They got up shortly after, going into a clinch on the feet after. A knee to the groin of Haqparast caused a pause in the second minute. They resumed in stand-up. Haqparast complained to the referee in the second minute about Munoz extending his fingers too much. Haqparast landed a good right hand in the third minute while avoiding a takedown attempt from Munoz. He was able to land strikes again when stopping a takedown a minute later. Haqparast continued to avoid takedown attempts while pressing forward until the round ended.
Haqparast landed a three-punch combination halfway through the round that hurt Munoz. Munoz was able to recover and get back to the feet, although it looked like he pulled the shorts of Haqparast to get momentum. While he slowed down his striking late in the round, Haqparast continued to advance on Munoz. Both fighters had small cuts on their faces opened during the round.
Early in the final round Munoz landed a few good punches. Munoz seemingly lost his balance after an exchange in the second minute, almost letting Haqparast get a takedown. The fight was a real boxing match in the third round, with both fighters taking turns with their punches. Haqparast hurt Munoz late, making him back up against the cage due to strikes. The fighters threw wild punches in the closing seconds of the fight. Going to the scorecards, Haqparast got the win (30-27, 30-27 & 30-27).
