An August 22nd fight between Yoel Romero and Uriah Hall won’t be happening after news broke on Tuesday that injury took Romero off of the card. The cancelled bout was first reported by Alfredo Zullino of BJPenn.com.
It was not disclosed why Romero was taken out of the bout, which was scheduled to co-main event a UFC “Fight Night” event.
A short-notice replacement to face Hall is currently being searched for.
The cancelled bout continues a streak of bad luck for Hall, who has now had three consecutive bouts cancelled. The first of three cancelled bouts came in April, as Hall was pulled from a bout against Jacare Souza as COVID-19 cancelled the show. A month later another booking between the two was thrown out after Souza tested positive for COVID-19.
Hall’s last fight was in September of 2019, where he picked up a split decision win over Antonio Carlos Junior.
Romero was looking to snap a three-fight losing stream in August which dates back to 2018. The most recent of the three losses were against UFC Middleweight Champion Israel Adesanya in March.
Now down to 11 bouts in total, UFC’s event on August 22nd still has it’s headlining bout between Pedro Munhoz and Frankie Edgar. Here’s how the entire card looks right now.
