UFC veteran Jim Miller fought Vinc Pichel to end the UFC 252 preliminary card on Saturday. Here’s how the fight went.
Bout 6: Jim Miller (32-14) vs. Vinc Pichel (12-2) (Lightweight)
Pichel scored with a two-punch combination to start the fight. A pause came in the second minute after a kick caught Pichel in the groin. The fight was in a clinch against the cage for more than a minute where Miller was in control. Miller got a takedown in the fourth minute after catching a leg. Miller got on the back of Pichel where he tried for a rear naked choke for a moment. Miller was able to move into full mount shortly after.
Miller got a takedown from a head kick to start the second round. Miller took full guard on top for a minute. Pichel was able to push Miller off, going into a clinch on the feet after. Pichel got a takedown from the clinch, going into a half guard after. Pichel was able to move into side control for a moment halfway through the round, although he went into half and full guard after. Trying to pass into a north-south position, Pichel got one of his legs caught by Miller. Pichel left the position and returned to half guard. Pichel landed short punches to the head and body from the position. Pichel stayed in control until the round ran out of time.
Pichel opened the final round by getting a double leg takedown. Pichel got into half guard immediately, trying for a kimura for a moment. Pichel moved into side control where he landed some strikes. Miller turned over, allowing Pichel to take his back in the second minute of the round. Miller got out of the position, being able to transition into a half guard on top. Miller got on the back of Pichel, although he was tossed off by Pichel after. Pichel tried to get on Miller’s back before they stood up in a clinch with two minutes left. Pichel landed a knee to the body before they separated. Pichel shot for a takedown in the fourth minute, although Miller was able to avoid it. Pichel landed a series of knees to the body in the clinch. Pichel got a takedown in the final minute, with Miller trying for a guillotine choke from the bottom. Pichel was able to escape the choke and stay in full guard until the round ended. The back-and-forth fight needed scorecards to determine a winner, with the judges deciding Pichel as the winner (29-28, 29-28 & 29-27).
