Kicking off the main card, rising bantamweight Merab Dvalishvili fought John Dodson. Here’s how their battle went.
Bout 7: John Dodson (21-11) vs. Merab Dvalishvili (11-4) (Bantamweight)
Dvalishvili got on the back of Dodson in a body lock halfway through the round, throwing knees to the back of his legs. The referee warned Dodson numerous times to not grab the cage to resist takedowns. Dvalishvili continued to knee the legs of Dodson for more than a minute. The fighters separated with less than a minute to go in the round.
Dvalishvili tried for a single leg takedown early in the second round, although Dodson was able to stop it. Dvalishvili got a double leg takedown in the second minute, lifting Dodson away from the cage and to the middle of the octagon before dumping him down. Dodson was able to get up immediately after Dvalishvili threw him down. Dvalishvili put Dodson against the cage in the fourth minute, getting a double leg takedown only moments after. Dodson was able to spring out of the position again. Dvalishvili got a takedown in the final minute of the round.
Dvalishvili got a takedown in the second minute of the final round, although, like the times before, Dodson was able to escape immediately. Dvalishvili landed a clean right hand in the fourth minute. Dodson was put against the cage in a clinch in the final minute of the fight. They separated and traded strikes before the round ended. After three rounds, Dvalishvili was chosen as the winner (30-27, 30-27 & 30-27).
RESULT: Merab Dvalishvili def. John Dodson via Decision, Unanimous
