Now being given his third opponent for the UFC’s August 29th “Fight Night,” Alex Caceres has been matched with Austin Springer. First reported by Farah Hannoun of MMA Junkie, the bout sees Springer as the second fighter to jump in on short notice to face Caceres.
The original plan for Caceres was to face Giga Chikadze, although, after Chikadze’s withdrawal from Saturday night’s UFC event, a new opponent had to be found. The first replacement was named on Wednesday as Kevin Croom, although he has now been removed from the show as well.
“Due to things completely out of my control, I am not fighting,” said Croom via Facebook on Wednesday night.
Springer will enter the cage on a three-fight winning streak. His last fight was last October, winning a five-round battle over Kevin Boehm to become the CageSport Featherweight Champion.
His previous fight was against the previously mentioned Chikadze on TV series “Dana White’s Contender Series,” although he was not offered a contract on the show.
Now with his third opponent set up to face him, Caceres retains the same goal, that being to extend his winning streak to three-in-a-row. If done, Caceres will be on his longest winning streak since his four-fight streak that kicked off his professional career in 2008 and 2009.
His last fight came in June, defeating undefeated prospect Chase Hooper via decision at UFC 250.
