UFC on ESPN+ 35: Alexander Romanov vs. Roque Martinez Play-by-Play

Heavyweights Alexander Romanov and Roque Martinez made their respective UFC debuts on Saturday. Their clash went like this.

Bout 4: Alexander Romanov (11-0) vs. Roque Martinez (15-5-2) (Heavyweight)

Romanov scored a body kick in the first minute, getting into a clinch moments after. Romanov got a takedown from the clinch. Martinez tried for a heel hook that Romanov could escape quickly. Romanov landed a series of punches on the back of Martinez. They worked back to their feet, although Romanov was quick to slam Martinez back down. Romanov tried for an arm triangle choke for a moment before they left the position and returned to the feet. Romanov put Martinez against the cage in a body lock in the second minute of the round. Romanov got a takedown moments after, getting half guard on top. Romanov moved into full mount in the third minute, throwing hammerfist strikes from the position. Martinez ate a series of punches before Romanov left the position. On his feet in side control, Romanov continued with hammerfist punches to Martinez. He moved back down into full mount with a minute to go in the fight. Romanov tried for a straight armbar that Martinez endured until the round ended.

Romanov got a single leg takedown in the first minute of the second round, taking half guard on top from the position. Romanov tried for an arm triangle choke for a moment before moving into full mount. Romanov returned to hammerfist strikes with two minutes left in the round. Romanov moved into a side control position. Moving back into a full mount, Martinez threw Romanov off of him for a moment. Romanov was able to get back into half guard, putting in an arm triangle choke. Romanov moved into side control with the choke, causing Martinez to tap out.

RESULT: Alexander Romanov def. Roque Martinez via Submission, Arm Triangle Choke (RD 2, 4:22)
