UFC on ESPN+ 36: Mirsad Bektic vs. Damon Jackson Play-by-Play

Mirsad Bektic fought short-notice replacement Damon Jackson on Saturday’s UFC show. Here’s how it went.

Bout 7: Mirsad Bektic (13-3) vs. Damon Jackson (17-3-1) (Featherweight)

Bektic got a double leg takedown less than 10 seconds into the fight. They stood up 30 seconds into the fight, although Bektic was quick to get a takedown from the clinch. Bektic got on the back of Jackson, moving into a half guard after a scramble. Bektic landed a punch to Jackson that the referee deemed as on the back of Jackson’s head, causing the referee to stop the fight. The fight resumed on the feet, causing Bektic to lose his position on the ground. Bektic shot for a takedown, with Jackson trying for a guillotine choke from the bottom. Bektic escaped the choke, getting on the back of Jackson after. They got up in a clinch, going back down when Jackson put in a kimura from the bottom. Bektic escaped the submission, going to ground and pound from the back after. Bektic stayed in control on the ground until the round ran out of time.

Bektic got a takedown early in the second round, although Jackson attempted a guillotine choke from the bottom. Bektic was able to escape the choke after being in it for a minute or so. Bektic got on the back of Jackson in the second minute of the round. Jackson worked his way up to his feet in the third minute of the round, dropping back down shortly after to try for a kimura. Jackson got to his feet a minute later, although Bektic, who was still on his back, took the fight back down. Flipping around to the front of Jackson, Bektic attempted a guillotine choke with a minute left. Jackson escaped and took full guard on top with a few seconds left in the fight. He landed a series of elbows to the head to conclude the round.

Jackson came forward with strikes early in the third round before clinching with Bektic. Jackson tried for a guillotine choke while against the cage. Bektic got a takedown a minute into the round while Jackson kept a hold of the choke. Jackson was able to flip into full mount while keeping hold of the choke. Bektic tapped out moments after.

RESULT: Damon Jackson def. Mirsad Bektic via Submission, Guillotine Choke (RD 3, 1:21)
