John Dodson was released from the UFC following a 17-fight career in the promotion, per a report from Damon Martin of MMA Fighting on Friday.
Dodson entered the UFC in 2011 through TV series “The Ultimate Fighter.” He won the finale of the show by defeating TJ Dillashaw in under two minutes.
Dodson fought for the promotion’s flyweight championship twice in his career, going to a decision loss to Demetrious Johnson in a 2013 and 2015 bout.
He lost three of his last five appearances in the cage. His most recent outing was in August, losing a decision to Merab Dvalishvili. He won a February fight over Nathaniel Wood, stopping the bantamweight in the third round with strikes.
