The second of the two “early prelim” fights on Saturday’s UFC 253 card was a fight between Jeff Hughes and winner of “The Ultimate Fighter,” Juan Espino. The heavyweight clash went like this.
Bout 2: Jeff Hughes (10-3) vs. Juan Espino (9-1) (Heavyweight)
Espino failed to land a takedown in the opening minute, although he landed a punch after failing an attempt. Espino got a takedown in the second minute of the fight, moving into side control quickly. Hughes was able to get back to the feet a minute later, although Espino quickly tossed him down to his knees. Hughes was taken down from the clinch in the fourth minute. Espino moved into side control attempting an arm triangle choke that make Hughes tap out.
RESULT: Juan Espino def. Jeff Hughes via Submission, Arm Triangle Choke (RD 1, 3:48)
