UFC on ESPN 16: Germaine de Randamie vs. Julianna Pena Play-by-Play

Former UFC Featherweight Champion Germaine de Randamie fought Julianna Pena on Saturday’s UFC main card. Their three-round fight went like this.

Bout 9: Germaine de Randamie (9-4) vs. Julianna Pena (9-3) (Bantamweight)

Pena seemingly got dropped to a knee by a right hook in the second minute of the fight. De Randamie, who had a clear reach and height advantage, landed a higher volume of strikes. Pena clinched up with de Randamie in the final 30 seconds of the round. Pena got a takedown just before the round ran out of time.

Pena put de Randamie against the cage in a clinch after a series of punches to open the second round. Pena got a takedown from a clinch in the second minute of the round. Pena landed some punches to the body before moving into half guard. Pena attempted a guillotine choke that de Randamie escaped with a minute left in the fight. Pena tried for another choke while de Randamie had side control on top. De Randamie tried for a von flue choke from the top until the round ran out of time.

Pena was able to charge forward and land combinations of punches early in the third round. Pena had de Randamie against the cage for a minute or so. De Randamie went to the ground with a guillotine choke in the fourth minute. The fight stopped after Pena was choke unconscious by the choke.

RESULT: Germaine de Randamie def. Julianna Pena via Submission, Guillotine Choke (RD 3, 3:25)
