UFC on ESPN 16: Yorgan De Castro vs. Carlos Felipe Play-by-Play

Heavyweights Yorgan De Castro and Carlos Felipe both aimed to bounce back from their respective first losses as a pro. Here’s who came out on top in their co-main event fight.

Bout 10: Yorgan De Castro (6-1) vs. Carlos Felipe (8-1) (Heavyweight)

Felipe was the more aggressive fighter in the first round, walking De Castro down with punches. De Castro landed a fair amount of leg kicks.

Felipe stunned De Castro with an overhand right early in the second round. They clinched against the cage after both connecting with some punches. Back to stand-up striking, De Castro scored with a hard two-punch combination in the second minute of the round. They went into a clinch against the cage, although they were separated due to De Castro grabbing the cage. Felipe went back to walking down De Castro, stringing together combinations of punches to the body and head. Another clinch was separated in the final minute as Felipe was grabbing the fence.

Early in the third round, Felipe backed up De Castro with a series of hooks to the head. They clinched up after. The referee broke them up eventually. De Castro tried for a double leg takedown in the second minute of the round, although he wasn’t able to secure it. They were separated again from a clinch with half of the round to go. De Castro put Felipe against the cage immediately after, which frustrated Felipe. They were split up again with two minutes to go, although De Castro did it again. The cycle repeated until the fight ran out of time. After three rounds, Felipe won the co-main event. Felipe was given the win after three rounds (30-27, 30-27 & 29-28).

RESULT: Carlos Felipe def. Yorgan De Castro via Decision, Unanimous
