The co-main event of Saturday’s UFC card saw Edson Barboza attempt to break a multi-fight skid against Makwan Amirkhani. Their fight went like this.
Bout 12: Edson Barboza (20-9) vs. Makwan Amirkhani (16-4) (Featherweight)
The first round had a slow pace of striking as the fighters were in a feeling out process. Barboza stopped a takedown attempt in the fourth minute of the fight. Amirkhani scored a takedown in the closing moments of the round, catching a kick and dumping Barboza to the ground.
Barboza dropped Amirkhani halfway through the second round with a right hand. The fight went to a ground for a moment after the knockdown. Amirkhani was dropped again by a right cross in the final minute of the round. He went to the ground with an anaconda choke after. Amirakhani was able to escape the choke, even taking half guard on top before the round concluded.
Amirkhani got a takedown from a clinch a minute into the final round. Amirkhani landed ground and pound from full guard for many minutes. The referee stood the fighters up with a minute left in the fight. Barboza landed a left jab that landed clean or Amirkhani. Barboza got the win after three rounds with scattered scorecards (30-26, 30-27 & 29-28).
RESULT: Edson Barboza def. Makwan Amirkhani via Decision, Unanimous
