UFC on ESPN+ 37: Giga Chikaze vs. Omar Morales Play-by-Play

Rising featherweights Giga Chikaze and Omar Morales were matched up for Saturday’s UFC card. Here’s how their fight went.

Bout 3: Giga Chikadze (10-2) vs. Omar Morales (10-0) (Featherweight)

Morales offered a glove touch to start the fight, although Chikadze did not respond. The fighters were engaging in striking exchanges early that had both of them connect. A left hand in the third minute of the fight seemingly dropped Morales. Morales went into a body lock with Chikadze in the third minute of the round, separating shortly after. Chikadze connected with leg kicks frequently in the round. While Morales wasn’t getting visibly hurt with punches, Chikadze was landing a much higher volume of strikes.

Morales was able to get Chikadze to the ground early in the second round after Chikadze failed to throw him. They got up shortly after in a clinch. Chikadze landed a hard overhand left in the fourth minute of the round. Morales was advancing for most of the round, although Chikadze connected well throughout. Like he did in the first round, he landed body kicks often.

Like the second round, Morales continued to walk Chikadze down. Chikadze dropped Morales in the fourth minute of the round with an overhand left. He continued with punches on the ground from full guard. Morales was able to work back to the feet with a minute-and-a-half left to go. Morales was able to stay in the fight until the horn went. Chikadze won on the scorecards in the end (30-27, 30-27 & 30-27).

RESULT: Giga Chikadze def. Omar Morales via Decision, Unanimous
