ONE Championship’s October 30th event will be their first to happen with a live audience since COVID-19, per an announcement on Friday. “Inside The Matrix,” a card which is set to happen from the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore, will allow 250 fans in live attendance.
The move comes two days after the Singapore Ministry of Health (MOH) announced the implementation of a pilot version of “pre-event testing” to help allow social events to take place.
“Pre-event testing pilots will enable MOH to study pre-event testing processes and to identify a model which can be implemented more widely,” said the ministry in a document issued on Tuesday.
The COVID-19 testing used under the demo program is antigen rapid testing (ART), which can produce a result “within half an hour.”
While the government recognized that the option of doing Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) testing is more accurate, the testing takes two days, which could detriment the process of hosting social events.
“This means there is a risk that the ARTs may not detect some COVID-19 positive cases,” said the document. Because of this, the mask-wearing and social distancing will also be in place.
Singapore has had a low number of new daily COVID-19 cases since early September, reporting 44 cases in the past week.
ONE’s tickets will range from the prices of 148 SGD ($108.94 USD) and 208 SGD ($153.11 USD).
The venue for the event, the Singapore Indoor Stadium, has a capacity of 12,000.
ONE started holding events in Singapore in October with “Reign of Dynasties.” They had previously held events in Thailand behind closed doors.
ONE’s event on October 30th will be their biggest since their return in July. The six-fight card includes four-consecutive championship bouts in the lineup.
