UFC on ESPN+ 40: Thiago Santos vs. Glover Teixeira Play-by-Play

Ranked light heavyweights Thiago Santos and Glover Teixeira fought in the main event of Saturday’s UFC “Fight Night” card. Their match went like this.

Bout 10: Thiago Santos (21-7) vs. Glover Teixeira (31-7) (Light Heavyweight)

Santos put together a few hard punches that hurt Teixeira and dropped him in the first minute. Teixeira shot for a takedown while getting to his feet. Slowing the momentum of Santos, Teixeira put Santos against the cage. Teixeira scored a takedown from a body lock, getting in full mount for a moment before going into half guard. Teixeira moved back into full mount halfway through the round before being thrown back into half guard. Teixeira connected with ground and pound from the top. Teixeira continued with strikes in full guard until the round ran out of time.

Teixeira was quick to secure a double leg takedown in the opening minute of the second round. Staying on the attack with ground and pound, Teixeira moved into side control in the fourth minute of the round. Teixeira took the back of Santos in the final moments of the round, putting in a solid rear naked choke that had to be stopped by the bell.

Teixeira failed to land a takedown early in the third round. After stopping the takedown, Santos landed a left hook that dropped Teixiera. Santos went down in half guard, throwing punches to Teixeira. After consuming numerous punches, Teixeira worked out of the position and took the back of Santos. After landing some punches, Teixeira put in a rear naked choke that made Santos tap out.

RESULT: Glover Teixeira def. Thiago Santos via Submission, Rear Naked Choke (RD 3, 1:49)
