Saturday’s UFC “Fight Night” card has lost the main event, as Islam Makhachev has pulled out of his five-round fight against Rafael dos Anjos. News of the scrapped main event was first reported by Brett Okamoto of ESPN.
The fight was scheduled to headline a TV event from the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
Per Okamoto, the promotion is currently searching for a new opponent for dos Anjos. Dos Anjos asked for his replacement to be Michael Chandler on Sunday.
Makhachev talked about his injury on Monday, mentioning in an Instagram post that a staph infection took him out of the fight.
For the time being, UFC’s “Fight Night” card only has 11 fights scheduled in the lineup.
