Dana White’s Contender Series: Season 3 Episode 10 Play-by-Play

Bout 1: Victoria Leonardo def. Chelsea Hackett via TKO, Strikes (RD 2, 4:41)

Play-by-Play:

Bout 1: Chelsea Hackett (3-0-1) vs. Victoria Leonardo (7-2) (Flyweight)

Leonardo clinched with Hackett early in the first round. Hackett scored a leg kick after they left the clinch. Leonardo was able to score a takedown from the clinch in the second minute, getting half guard on top. Hackett worked back to her feet in the fourth minute, leaving the clinch shortly after. Hackett connected with leg kicks periodically. Hackett clinched after blocking a head kick in the final minute of the fight.

Both fighters connected with a hard punch during an exchange in the opening minute of the second round. Leonardo put Hackett against the cage in a clinch. Hackett was able to land an elbow before leaving the clinch. Leonardo seemingly got hurt by punches in the second minute of the round, clinching to buy herself time. From the clinch, Leonardo was able to get a takedown in the fourth minute of the round. Leonardo moved into full mount shortly after. Leonardo let punches go from the position, with Hackett being able to stop the flurry by moving  on the bottom. Leonardo eventually put together enough punches for the referee to stop the fight.

Bout 2: Sherrard Blackledge (5-0) vs. Tucker Lutz (10-1) (Lightweight)

Blackledge clinched with Lutz early in the fight after Lutz charged forward with strikes. Lutz shot for a takedown, although Blackledge was able to stay on his feet in the clinch. Blackledge was successful when looking for his own takedown, sitting Lutz down for a moment in the second round of the fight. Lutz worked up to his feet, staying in the clinch with Blackledge. A pause came in the clinch as Lutz was his in the groin with a knee. Moments after the fight resumed, Lutz was kicked in the groin, causing the fight to pause yet again. They resumed after somewhat of a break, returning in stand-up. Lutz was throwing loud, chopping leg kicks as they resumed. Lutz scored a takedown in the final minute of the round. Blackledge looked for a guillotine choke from the bottom, although Lutz shortly after. Lutz moved into full mount then took the back of Blackledge to end the round.

Lutz was landing solid kicks to the legs and body of Blackledge in the first minute of the second round. Blackledge clinched with Lutz in the second minute of the fight. Lutz was able to score a takedown from the position, getting on the back of Blackledge on the ground. Blackledge was able to get back to his feet with half of the round to go. Lutz looked for a guillotine on the feet, keeping with it as he went to the ground. Blackledge was able to escape the choke, working back to his feet after. Blackledge scored a double leg takedown in the fourth minute of the round. Lutz got back to his feet in the final minute of the round.

Lutz came forward with a combination early in the third round including a knee that snapped the head of Blackledge back. Blackledge shot for a takedown after, putting Lutz against the cage after he resisted the attempt. Lutz scored a takedown in the second minute, although Blackledge sprung back up. Lutz landed another takedown halfway through the round, landing in side control. Lutz stayed in side control until the round ran out of time. Lutz won via scorecards after three rounds (30-27, 30-27 & 30-27).

Bout 3: Pauline Macias (4-0) vs. Gloria de Paula (4-2) (Strawweight)

De Paula opened the fight with a couple of hard right crosses to the head. Macias dumped de Paula down for a takedown in the first minute. Macias was able to work back to her feet shortly after. De Paula stopped two takedowns in the second minute of action. De Paula looked for a d’arce choke while in a sprawl position with Macias. She held onto the choke until the round ran out of time.

The fighters clinched early in the second round after de Paula landed a series of punches. Macias was able to score a takedown in the second minute of the round. Macias returned to the feet in the third minute. Macias caught a leg kick in the third minute, although de Paula was able to follow up and connect with a knee to the body. Macias pulled guard in the third minute while in a clinch, allowing de Paula to take full guard on top. De Paula stood up for a moment and landed a series of punches to the head of Macias, who was still on her back. De Paula kept top position until the round concluded.

De Paula put Macias against the cage in a clinch to start the third round. De Paula was able to put together punches in the clinch before separating in the second minute. De Paula was able to put together a series of knees in a clinch in the fourth round. Seemingly wobbled, Macias failed to land a takedown in the fourth minute of the round. De Paula finished the round strong, putting together a series of knees to the body of Macia in a clinch. De Paula won after three rounds (30-26, 30-26 & 30-27)

Bout 4: Nick Maximov (5-0) vs. Oscar Cota (11-2) (Heavyweight)

Maximov caught a leg kick for a takedown immediately. Maximov held half guard on top, throwing punches periodically from the position. Cota was able to work his way up to his feet in the second minute. The fighters went down to their knees in a sprawl position. Cota held the head of Maximov until the round ran out of time.

Maximov shot for a takedown early in the second round. Cota pulled guard with a guillotine attempt that Maximov escaped in moments. Maximov took half guard on top after. Maximov was able to take full mount for a moment in the third minute of the round before being relegated back to half guard. Maximov stayed active with ground and pound until the round expired.

Maximov was able to land a takedown early in the third round. While Maximov controlled from the position, Cota kept stopping him from moving into full mount. He kept the position until the round ended. Maximov won after the 15 minutes of competition (30-26, 30-26 & 29-28).

Bout 5: JP Buys (8-2) vs. Jacob Silva (6-3) (Flyweight)

Buys was able to score a takedown in the first minute of the round. Buys moved into side control with half of the round to work. Buys was able to get on the back of Silva, landing hammerfist punches to the head from the position. Buys moved into side control again while looking for an arm triangle choke. Silva was able to escape the choke as Buys moved to his back. Buys landed more punches to the head before pulling guard with a guillotine choke. The referee pulled Silva out of the position, although Silva immediately protested the stoppage.
