Invicta FC will look for their new strawweight champion on Friday, as Emily Ducote will fight Montserrat Ruiz in the main event of Invicta FC 43. Here’s a preview of the card, which is set to happen in Kansas City, Kansas, USA.
10:45AM EST UPDATE: The main event fight between Emily Ducote and Montserrat Ruiz has been removed from the card. Full details on that here.
Main Card (8:00PM EST / 7:00PM CST) (UFC Fight Pass)
Bout 1: Juliana Miller (1-0) vs. Kendal Holowell (0-0) (Flyweight)
Kendal Holowell will make her pro debut on the main card against Juliana Miller. Per Tapology, Holowell had seven wins in her amateur record from 2017 to 2020.
Miller won her pro debut in 2019, defeating Sadie Hubbard on a CCW card.
Bout 2: Alexa Culp (1-0) vs. Meaghan Penning (0-0) (Strawweight)
After winning her pro debut in July, Alexa Culp will return to Invicta FC on Friday against Meaghan Penning. Culp won her pro debut months back, finishing Natalya Speece in the second round with a rear naked choke.
Penning enters her pro career in MMA after an amateur career with four wins and one loss.
Bout 3: Brittney Cloudy (2-2) vs. Hope Chase (2-1) (Featherweight)
Featherweights Brittney Cloudy and Hope Chase will compete on Friday. Cloudy will look to bounce back from a loss on the card. Her last fight, a loss to Hailey Cowan via split decision, took place in LFA. Her last fight in Invicta FC was in 2018, where she lost a split decision to Erin Blanchfield.
Chase won in her Invicta FC debut last year, defeating Megan Cawley in the first round with a rear naked choke.
Bout 4: Stephanie Geltmacher (4-1) vs. Caitlin Sammons (3-0) (Flyweight)
Coming off of her first loss as a pro, Stephanie Geltmacher will fight Caitlin Sammons on Friday. After two-straight wins in Invicta FC, Geltmacher lost a fight in August of 2019 to Victoria Leonardo via decision.
Sammons picked up her third win in July, defeating Claire Guthrie via decision.
Bout 5: Kayla Harrison (7-0) vs. Courtney King (4-1) (Featherweight)
A rare thing will happen in the sport of MMA on Thursday, as one promotion will lend a fighter to another for a fight. PFL Lightweight Champion Kayla Harrison will compete in the co-main event of the evening, fighting Courtney King.
Harrison has not been able to compete in 2020, as the PFL cancelled their season this year due to COVID-19. The plan currently is for Harrison to compete in the promotion’s 2021 season, which is scheduled to start in April.
Harrison is undefeated as a pro, with all of her fights being under PFL. Her last fight was in December, where she went five rounds to defeat Larissa Pacheco.
The fight on Friday will be King’s return to Invicta FC. After winning a fight against Holi Salazar in Invicta FC in early 2020, King went and picked up two more wins on the regional scene. Like Harrison, the fight will be King’s first of 2020.
Bout 6: Emily Ducote (9-6) vs. Montserrat Ruiz (9-1) (Vacant Invicta FC Strawweight Championship)
In the main event of the evening, Emily Ducote and Montserrat Ruiz will fight to become the eighth Invicta FC Strawweight Champion in the history of the promotion.
The previous champion was Kanako Murata, who vacated the belt after signing with the UFC. Murata won the belt in 2019, defeating Ducote via split decision.
Ducote has since returned to the win column, defeating Juliana Lima in July via decision.
Ruiz won in her return to competition in July, defeating Janaisa Morandin in the first round.
