Looking for his fourth win in his rookie year in the UFC, Daniel Rodriguez fought Nicolas Dalby on Saturday’s preliminary card. Here’s how the fight went.
Bout 4: Nicolas Dalby (18-3-1) vs. Daniel Rodriguez (13-1) (Welterweight)
The first round was close on the feet as both fighters tried to figure each other out with strikes. Rodriguez closed the round strong, chasing Dalby down with punches and hurting him slightly at one point.
Rodriguez put Dalby against the cage in a clinch early in the second round. They separated, with Dalby starting a clinch after. Dalby would land leg kicks, although Rodriguez would be able to counter-strike after. Dalby shot for a takedown in the final minute of the round that Rodriguez could resist by backing up against the cage.
Dalby had a strong opening minute to the final round, being active with kicks and punches. Rodriguez stopped another takedown a minute into the round. Dalby clinched with Rodriguez in the third minute after having a takedown stopped. Keeping the fight at a distance, Dalby was able to out-strike Rodriguez for most of the round. Rodriguez wobbled Dalby slightly with a punch in the final minute of the fight. Needing judges to find a winner, Dalby was given the win (30-27, 29-28 & 29-28).
