UFC on ESPN 18: Bill Algeo vs. Spike Carlyle Play-by-Play

Both looking to return to the win column, Bill Algeo and Spike Carlyle fought on Saturday’s UFC “Fight Night” card. Here’s how it went.

Bout 7: Bill Algeo (13-5) vs. Spike Carlyle (9-2) (Featherweight)

Carlyle started shouting at Algeo in the second minute during a striking exchange. Algeo connected with some punches early in the fight. Carlyle scored a takedown in the third minute of the round, getting on the back of Algeo as he stood back up. Carlyle kept on Algeo with a body lock. Carlyle took Algeo down in the final minute of the round, applying a bulldog choke on the ground. Algeo was able to escape the choke, taking the back of Carlyle after.

Carlyle caught a leg kick early in the second round for a takedown. Algeo was quick to return to his feet and clinch with Carlyle. Algeo was able to get a takedown in the second minute of the round, getting on the back of Carlyle. With Carlyle flipping over, Algeo took full mount on top. Algeo had an arm triangle choke for a moment from the position. He got on the back of Carlyle again in the third minute. Carlyle was able to escape the position and take full guard on top with 30 seconds to go in the round. 

Carlyle was throwing tired, wailing hooks on the feet early in the third round. Algeo stopped a takedown in the third minute of the round, landing a knee to the head in a sprawl position after. Carlyle scored a takedown in the third minute of the round, getting on the back of Algeo on the ground. Algeo got back up to his feet in the fourth minute. Algeo landed a knee to the head as Carlyle shot for a takedown in the fourth minute. Carlyle looked for a takedown from the clinch after eating a left hook in the final minute. Algeo landed a couple of punches after leaving the clinch. Needing judges to find a winner, Algeo was given the win (30-27, 30-27 & 30-27).

RESULT: Bill Algeo def. Spike Carlyle via Decision, Unanimous
