Islam Abasov Pulled From Friday’s ONE Card Following Being Detained In Russia

Undefeated MMA fighter Islam Abasov has been removed from ONE Championship’s December 4th card after being detained in Moscow, Russia earlier in the week.

First reported by Russian news outlet TASS, the arrest came following a “road conflict” in the country’s capital.

“Islam Abasov was forced to withdraw due to a road traffic incident in Russia,” said ONE Championship on Monday.

Abasov was scheduled to face Amir Aliakbari in Singapore as part of ONE’s “Big Bang” card. ONE is currently looking for a new opponent to face Aliakbari, who is currently in Singapore for the fight-week.

“We already have another opponent but at the moment, test[ing] is being conducted,” said ONE in a statement.

The fight was scheduled to be the ONE debut for Abasov. His last fight was in October of 2019, where he defeated Ednaldo Oliveira.
